  • POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
    • Full time, 37.5 hrs. per week
    • Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

    THIS POSITION IS FOR YOU IF:
    • You have experience with standard office procedures and computer software programs (i.e. Microsoft Office)
    • You can apply your experience to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks and operations.
    • You have computer experience with law enforcement agencies in securing and handling digital evidence in the form of photographs, video, 911 calls, body and dashboard cameras.

    THE ROLE:  The candidate in this role will screen, review, prioritize and prepare incoming files; ensure that all case file information necessary for prosecution is complete; obtain relevant documentation (e.g. police reports, hospital records, toxicology laboratory reports, video, etc.); locates individuals; prepare case synopsis and chronology for prosecutor; respond to inquiries from victims regarding case progress.

    ABOUT US:

    The Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of all criminal matters in the. It is an independent agency of the executive branch of state government, established under the Constitution of the State of Connecticut. The Division of Criminal Justice is composed of the Office of the Chief State's Attorney, located in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, and the Offices of the State's Attorneys for each of the thirteen Judicial Districts in the State of Connecticut.

    Selection Plan

    For current state employees, salary calculations are not necessarily comparable from one of the three branches of state government (i.e., Executive, Legislative, Judicial) to the other.

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In the Division of Criminal Justice, this class is accountable for assisting in the preparation of criminal and motor vehicle cases for prosecution and trial and for investigating or assisting in the post-arrest investigation of crimes within the jurisdiction of the assigned prosecutorial office.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    Screens, reviews, prioritizes and prepares incoming motor vehicle and criminal files; ensures that all case file information necessary for prosecution is complete; interviews and takes statements from police, witnesses, and victims; obtains relevant documentation (e.g. police reports, hospital records, toxicology laboratory reports, etc.); locates individuals; prepares case chronology for prosecutor; prepares necessary reports and may make initial recommendation regarding pretrial diversion; briefs victims and witnesses prior to court appearances; responds to inquiries from victims regarding case progress; serves as liaison with police departments and other State and Federal agencies; performs related duties as required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    Considerable knowledge of relevant State laws and regulations; considerable knowledge of investigative methods and techniques; knowledge of rules of evidence and legal processes; considerable interviewing skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; considerable interpersonal skills; ability to gather and interpret data.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    Two (2) years of experience as a law enforcement officer.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

    A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related fields may be substituted for the General Experience.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience handling body camera footage and performing light editing via video software
    • Experience creating PowerPoint presentations
    • Experience using case management systems in detail
    • Experience with law enforcement
    • Experience with COLLECT
    • Experience with investigations

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Incumbents in this class may be required to travel within the State in the course of their daily work.
