Provides
direct Chaplaincy care to persons with psychiatric, substance use and medically
complex diagnosis by administering a variety of interfaith spiritual rites,
rituals, and ceremonies. Has knowledge of the needs of adults with severe and
persistent psychiatric and co-occurring disorders and knowledge of the growth
and spiritual developmental stages of adults, ages 18 and over.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Chaplaincy Department of a state hospital, correctional facility or agency, this class is accountable for ministering to the pastoral needs of the population and for conducting religious services.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Provides culturally and
spiritually appropriate, interfaith services to patients in the SWCMHS 24-hour
continuous operated Psychiatric Hospital Services.
- Provides direct Chaplaincy care
to persons with psychiatric, substance use and medically complex diagnosis by
administering a variety of interfaith spiritual rites, rituals, and ceremonies.
- Promotes cultural and gender
diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace, sensitivity to client needs,
and assures the maintenance of client rights.
- Provides spiritually oriented
recovery wellness groups that promote hope, belief in self, and personal
spiritual fulfillment.
- Works collaboratively with
inpatient interdisciplinary treatment teams to provide high quality client
care.
- Provides consults with facility
staff on client spiritual or religious problems and interprets Chaplaincy job
functions to staff in the facility.
- Assists in organizing and
conducting spiritual wellness seminars, in-house educational programs, and
events for the SWCMHS community.
- Under appropriate clinical
supervision, provides spiritual counseling to individuals, and their families.
- May participate in team
meetings, speak to lay and professional groups and serve on a committee.
- May participate in Employee
Assistance Program.
- Maintains records.
- Ability to adhere to
DMHAS/SWCMHS policies and procedures.
- Ability to comply with agency
attendance and work rule requirements.
- Has current knowledge of safe
work practices.
- Monitors and documents consumer
behavior and progress in DMHAS/SWCMHS Electronic Health Record.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Knowledge of pastoral ministry and ability to perform requirements of formal religious services;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
- Incumbents must possess one of the following:
- Graduation from an accredited three (3) year post graduate theological seminary;
- A Master of Divinity degree or its equivalent;
- Completion of all formal religious training required by a recognized religious denomination necessary to perform the pastoral role.
AND
- One (1) year of pastoral experience or equivalent experience within a recognized religious denomination.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in a psychiatric inpatient hospital congregate
care setting.
- Formal religious training required by a recognized
religious body necessary to perform the Chaplaincy role and has received
ordination/commission and endorsement by a religious body.
- Has at least one (1) year of Chaplaincy experience or
equivalent experience within a recognized religious body.
- Experience caring for and empathizing with individuals
with psychiatric, substance use and medical disabilities.
- Experience working with adults with severe and persistent
psychiatric and co-occurring disorders and Knowledge of the spiritual and
psychosocial developmental stages of adults.
- Knowledge of pastoral ministry and ability to perform the
requirements of interfaith spiritual rites, rituals, and ceremonial services in
both individual and group settings.
- Experience utilizing interpersonal skills, listening
skills, attending skills, observation skills, and the ability to follow oral
and written instructions.
- Experience using an Electronic Medical Record system and
using Microsoft computer software programs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class must have been ordained or commissioned by a religious body and received endorsement by an acceptable recognized denominational authority for this position. Endorsement or credentialing by the same endorsing authority must be ongoing and uninterrupted as a condition of employment.

Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
