The State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF) – is accepting applications for one (1) Research Analyst position in Hartford, CT.


Under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools, the Research Analyst Position performs administrative database management, problem solving, statistical analysis related to database systems for Unified School District #2 (USD#2).  The position is responsible for overseeing aspects of the student information system including application, databases, user support and communications.  This position also performs other related duties to support USD#2 systems networks.

In your role as a Research Analyst, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and implement formal research projects and assist in these activities on more comprehensive and complex research assignments;
  • Analyze, interpret and prepare data in a variety of ways;
  • Prepare narrative and statistical reports;
  • Develop computerized databases and analyze and interpret computer generated reports;
  • Perform related duties as required.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in research design and implementation.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Six (6) years of professional experience in research, data analysis or economics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

  • College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
  • A Master's degree in economics, statistics or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
  • Successful completion of a Connecticut Careers Trainee program approved by the Department of Administrative Services may be substituted for the General Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with database management, statistical data, and programming, including providing technical support, network troubleshooting and end user application support.
  • Experience presenting information to a diverse group, including conducting trainings and providing user support in an educational setting.
  • Experience working with Connecticut State Reporting (PSIS,TCS, ED reports).
  • Experience with maintaining software including creating and utilizing files, tables, queries, and reports.
  • Experience summarizing analytical and statistical analyses into written reports.
  • Experience using data visualization software tools including PowerSchool, MS Excel, MS PowerBI, or Tableau
