Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH), under the umbrella of the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Storekeeper (PCN 142450) to join our team. This position has an anticipated end date of one (1) year after hire. Position may be extended based on the needs of the Agency.

  • Maintain supply storage areas located at CVH Warehouse.
  • Maintain, stock, and distribute warehouse items throughout the CVH campus, including clothing, food, hygiene, medical and PPE products.
  • Maintain car-pool vehicles, which requires the ability to drive as needed.

Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH) opened in 1868 as the State’s public hospital for the treatment of persons with mental illness. Throughout its history, it has experienced the multitude of medical, social and political changes affecting such facilities. The hospital became the amalgamation of four formerly freestanding psychiatric hospitals, four freestanding substance use disorder treatment facilities, and one maximum security hospital. Today, CVH is comprised of 17 inpatient units over two campuses (Middletown and Hartford). All of the services provided by CVH are designed with the concept of "Recovery to Wellness" as their operational framework.  Recovery is a process of restoring or developing a positive and meaningful sense of identity apart from one’s condition and then rebuilding one’s life in the fullest sense.  Recovery is an individualized patient-centered approach. Achieving and maintaining an optimal state of health and wellness is integrated in our recovery approach.  Individuals acquire and practice life skills that will assist them in their recovery process.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

This class is accountable for independently performing a full range of various stores duties, both manual and clerical, such as receiving, storing, issuing, inspecting, inventorying, and the like; may be in charge of a small storeroom or be a specialist in a phase of total stores operation.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Receives and issues stock and maintains records of receipts, requisitions, and stock on hand; 
  • Arranges stock in planned fashion, with due account taken of age, accessibility, safety and security; 
  • Clarifies amount and condition of stock on hand and reports all discrepancies or need for replenishment; 
  • Verifies quantity and quality of incoming supplies against invoices, dray bills, bills of lading and orders; 
  • Maintains housekeeping and security of stores area; 
  • Takes required inventory of materials and supplies; 
  • Receives gas station reports and makes necessary corrections; 
  • Keeps mileage and maintenance records of vehicles in car pool; 
  • Inspects material handling equipment, scales, gas pumps and other allied storeroom equipment for accuracy and safety; 
  • Codes and inventories furniture and equipment; 
  • Operates material handling equipment; 
  • May perform purchasing functions for inventory item stock replenishment; 
  • May drive motor vehicles as assigned; 
  • May enter data into a computer; 
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Knowledge of
    • the methods of requisitioning, handling, storing and issuing of materials and supplies; 
    • safe and efficient warehousing practices including purchasing;

  • Ability to
    • keep accurate stock records and inventories;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of experience in stock or warehouse work or closely related work that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with receiving, storing, picking, packing and delivery of supplies
  • Experience keeping accurate stock records and inventories, in addition to conducting physical inventories.
  • Experience driving 24' box trucks for deliveries including loading dock procedures.
  • Experience with safe and efficient warehousing practices including operating electric pallet jacks or fork lifts.
  • Experience utilizing computer software including Microsoft Office Excel and Outlook.
  • Possession of a current, valid motor vehicle drivers' license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
  • Incumbents in this class must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever their services are required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.
  • A physical examination will be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights; may be exposed to weather conditions and may be required to handle hazardous materials/chemicals.
