The State of Connecticut, Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy for a Maintainer position.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Full time.
  • Tuesday - Saturday.
  • 6 am to 2:00pm.
THE ROLE: 
  • The maintainer positions offer a wide range of responsibilities, allowing you to gain comprehensive knowledge of DMV processes, including handling various types of license plates, forms, and other related tasks.
  • The chosen candidate will handle custodial duties, minor maintenance repairs, landscaping tasks, and computer-based inventory management.

Selection Plan

  • For current state employees, salary calculations are not necessarily comparable from one of the three branches of state government (i.e., Executive, Legislative, Judicial) to the other.
  • These positions will be filled in accordance with contractual language, reemployment, SEBAC, transfer, promotion and merit employment rules. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing basic tasks of an unskilled nature (e.g. requiring little prior experience or training; most tasks can be learned quickly on the job) in one or several of the following areas:

  • Building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial);
  • Grounds care;
  • Food services;
  • Operation of trucks of less than five (5) ton capacity;
  • Parking garage.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Skills
    • interpersonal skills;

  • Ability to
    • follow oral and written instructions; 
    • learn policies and procedures; 
    • operate, care for and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any experience and training which provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with custodial duties such as vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, snow removal, and landscaping.
  • Experience with inventory systems such as CIVLS (Connecticut Integrated Vehicle and Licensing System), Salesforce.
  • Experience with computers and data entry.
  • Experience with maintenance of buildings and facility grounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the class.
  • A physical examination may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and risk of injury from equipment and assaultive and/or abusive patients and/or clients.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to complete an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
