Paralegal - Office of Adjudications - Seasonal Help
  • Up to 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
Responsibilities include:
  • Under the supervision of the Staff Attorney, this position will support the operations of the Office of Adjudications;
  • Drafting notices of administrative proceedings; 
  • Administering and enabling participation in remote and in-person proceedings;
  • Assisting the public and self-represented individuals in matters before the office;
  • Conducting research and assist in the projects of the office; and 
  • Performing related duties as required
About us:
The Office of Adjudications, in the Office of the Commissioner, conducts hearings and issues written decisions in contested cases regarding environmental permitting, licensing and enforcement matters where such hearings are requested by a party or the public or required by law. Such cases may arise under any of the Department's regulatory programs and involve application of substantive and procedural law to the factual record established in each case. Hearings are conducted in accordance with the Uniform Administrative Procedure Act, the Department's Rules of Practice, and all other relevant law.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Ability to follow instructions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and tracking documents;
  • Experience as a paralegal or legal assistant for two or more attorneys in a government agency, law firm, or corporation;
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel (creating, formatting, and sorting spreadsheets with formulas); Outlook (scheduling meetings with 5 or more parties and organizing incoming emails from parties) Teams (organization and teamwork in a remote environment); Word and Adobe (merging documents, commenting, sharing documents with others, and using track changes); and Zoom (managing accounts and operating as the host);
  • Experience processing filed hearing material;
  • Experience developing standardized and repeatable procedures to streamline data organization;
  • Experience producing written communications without errors;
  • Experience communicating with people from varying socioeconomic/ethnic backgrounds and coordinating public meetings;
  • Experience working in a team-oriented work environment; and
  • Experience working on two or more projects simultaneously, while adhering to deadlines.
