Introduction


The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has an exciting opportunity for Seasonal Resource Assistants to support our Land Acquisition and Management Unit with administrative tasks and fieldwork for our Land and Water Conservation Fund Program.

These positions are based out of DEEP Headquarters in Hartford and will perform in-office administrative and analytical tasks, as well as conduct site inspections and fieldwork statewide using State vehicles. This is an excellent chance to get hands-on experience in grant compliance, land management, and fieldwork working on a nationally recognized federal grant program!

Position highlights

Duties vary by need, are weather-dependent, and include but are not limited to:

  • Site visits and inspections to check for grant compliance;
  • Using GPS and paper maps to inspect site boundaries;
  • Using GPS technology to record findings in the field;
  • Coordinating with other DEEP and municipal staff for fieldwork;
  • Document review and administrative work;
  • Preparing inspection reports for supervisor review.
These positions are Monday through Friday, 35 hours per week, not exceeding 1,040 hours total or 6 months in duration.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Ability to follow instructions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience conducting field work and recording site information;
  • Computer skills with experience writing reports, summarizing findings;
  • Able to drive long distances and/or hike several miles in a day's work;
  • Willingness to work in variable weather and field conditions;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat and other office programs;
  • Experience with GPS systems, ArcGIS and AGOL systems.

  • Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.
