An incumbent is this class assists and supports the case management function by providing clerical assistance and routine services to clients such as transportation and appointment scheduling.
Nature and Scope
A class incumbent supports case managers by obtaining and verifying pertinent information about clients' history. Incumbents prepare forms and reports necessary to provide required services for clients and maintain case records. Class incumbents visit clients at place of residence and/or schools and observes behavior and reports accordingly. In addition, an incumbent at this level becomes familiar with available community resources which can be utilized by the case manager. Securing client cooperation and developing effective interpersonal relationships are of major significance in this work. The incumbent will directly collaborate with community resources in order to obtain client services when appropriate.
Essential Functions

Schedules appointments for clients and transports to required location (hospital, court, therapy session) provides coaching and assists client; provides support and encouragement to obtain desired outcome.
Provides office and telephone coverage in absence of case manager and refers problem to appropriate party.
Visits clients in a variety of environments such as home, school, observing behavior, and reporting to Case Manager.
Prepares and maintains a variety of records and forms required by case manager to provide the necessary services to the client.
Monitors behavior of child and parents on parental visits and insures safe interaction.
May interview and obtain basic information from clients such as dates of birth or social security numbers of family members.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Family Service Assistant I Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Coursework, training and/or work experience in health or human services support such as interviewing clients and assessing personal, health, social or financial needs in accordance with program requirements or coordinating with community resources to obtain client services.
