Summary Statement

The class incumbent is responsible for the recruitment, assessment and training of shared living providers for the Division of Developmental Disabilities Services, Community Services Program.

Nature and Scope

The incumbent is responsible for processing applications for potential shared living providers. An incumbent conducts site investigations to make social assessments of potential host families. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for developing training materials and conducting and coordinating training classes for shared living providers. Work includes recruitment of potential shared living providers through media advertisement and public speaking engagements.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts home investigations in order to determine the initial compliance of potential providers to division regulations and standards.  
     
  • Develops provider profile based on site investigations, social assessment of potential host family, applicant's strength and weaknesses, client trait preferences and in-service test scores. 
     
  • Conducts/coordinates provider training classes for the purpose of orienting providers to division policies and the field of intellectual developmental disabilities. 
     
  • Develops provider in-service course outline, lesson plans, training materials and evaluation methods. Schedules speakers, visual aids and classrooms. 
     
  • Develops media advertisements and speaks before churches, civic associations and other appropriate resources in order to recruit potential host families.

  • Knowledge of standards and regulations pertaining to the DDDS home and community based waiver administered by DDDS/Community Services.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Intellectual Developmental Disability Shared Living Coordinator
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of an Associates degree or higher in Behavioral or Social Science or related field.
  2. Six months experience in health or human services work such as applying theories, principles, laws and practices of health or human services programs and services that assist with and improve life for individuals, families, or communities such as financial support, employment, unemployment, housing, health care, disease prevention, substance abuse, child protective services, physical/mental health treatment and prevention or rehabilitation.
  3. Six months experience in interviewing which includes using structured or unstructured interview techniques to obtain facts, explore issues and identify courses of action.
  4. Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  5. Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  6. Knowledge of presenting or facilitating workshops, seminars or educational sessions.
