This class is responsible for directing the administration of treatment programs for offenders incarcerated in adult correctional institutions.
Nature and Scope
The class incumbent reports to the Chief, Bureau of Prisons and is responsible for directing staff assigned to reception and diagnostic units in the initial assessment and development of comprehensive treatment plans for all offenders entering correctional institutions. In addition, the class incumbent coordinates, assesses, and evaluates all treatment programs administered by the department including contractual services provided by private/non-profit organizations and the Bureau of Community Custody and Supervision to ensure appropriate treatment services are available for all offenders as they progress through the correctional system. Work also includes implementing, modifying, or replacing treatment programs at institutions, and developing new programs in conjunction with the Bureau of Prisons and Community Custody and Supervision staff. While the class incumbent determines the technical methods and procedures to perform the work such as determining the most effective treatment strategy for inmate populations, or modifications needed to meet the needs of individual offenders; decisions such as eliminating particular treatment programs or those having an immediate impact on the safety and security of an institution are deferred.
