The class incumbent is responsible for assisting in the operations of the Delaware State Hospital Sheltered Workshop Program.
Nature and Scope
The incumbent in this class reports to an administrative superior and is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of vocational rehabilitation programs for chronically mentally ill persons who are clients of the Delaware State Hospital Sheltered Workshop program. In addition, the incumbent oversees the placement of clients in jobs within Delaware State Hospital departments. The incumbent also assists in procuring contract work by marketing the services of the workshop program and conducting preliminary negotiations with firms subject to approval by the Program Director.
Essential Functions

Assists in overall workshop program operations by recording and maintaining employee and client time sheets and submitting for payroll and inspecting all workshop areas for compliance with safety procedures and hospital accreditation standards; supervises client activities in other workshop areas on an emergency basis to maintain production levels and continuity of client therapy.
Monitors the placement and progress of clients employed in various departments of the DSH by maintaining relationships with Hospital staff/clients' supervisor regarding problems, complaints and progress of recently placed handicapped clients and recommending corrective action.
Monitors contractual agreements for services provided to outside organizations/ businesses.
Assigns, reviews and evaluates the work of a staff engaged in client employment skill development and placement activities.
Prepares and maintains various records and reports regarding workshop activities, client placements and other program data.

Knowledge of Federal regulations applicable to rehabilitation facilities.
Knowledge of recordkeeping principles and practices.

Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for DSH Sheltered Workshop Assistant Director Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Six months experience in career counseling which includes assisting hard to serve job seekers to develop realistic and achievable employment goals; interviewing to obtain facts and explore issues; identifying obstacles or barriers to employment and jointly formulating employability development plans directed at employment outcomes.
Six months experience in working with persons with disabilities.
Six months experience in production management such as managing overall production processing operation; identifying priorities, staffing needs, schedule changes, processes and procedures to meet operational needs.
Six months experience in estimating cost, time and materials for projects.
Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
Six months experience in narrative report writing.
