A class incumbent is responsible for organizing, coordinating and directing inter-disciplinary treatment programs for the largest adult correctional institution.
Directs the work of 6-8 supervisory, 26-30 professional and 4-6 support staff.
Nature and Scope
The class incumbent reports to the Deputy Warden. An incumbent in this class directs, organizes and coordinates an inter disciplinary treatment program to include counseling, social, religious and volunteer services in a correctional institution and establishes internal operating policies and procedures for treatment services within departmental/institutional guidelines. Work includes assessing current programs based on facility and objectives and developing and overseeing the implementation of new or revised programs to ensure conformance with departmental inmate rehabilitation goals and objectives. The incumbent is responsible for submitting parole/pardon board reports as regulated by law and in accordance with strict timetables. A significant aspect of the work involves detailed coordination with other professionals involved in the rehabilitation/treatment program.

Organizes, coordinates, and directs an inter-disciplinary treatment program.
Directly supervises, or coordinates through subordinate supervisors, the various treatment services offered in the institution.
Coordinates the treatment program with other major institutional programs and activities such as educational, security and religious.
Conducts conferences with members of the treatment/rehabilitation staff and conducts regularly scheduled training sessions as required to include volunteers.
Evaluates current program revises and/or plans and implements new programs.
Prepares a variety of records, reports, and progress summaries as well as special and periodic reports.
Performs public relations duties and serves as departmental/institutional liaison with the community and other interested agencies regarding treatment program.
May serve on or participate in various committees and/or boards both within the institution and on a statewide basis.
Conducts quarterly inspections of all buildings for cleanliness, general living conditions and security.

Knowledge of criminal/psychological counseling techniques, various human behavior to include criminally-oriented behavior, and identification of symptoms of maladaptation.
Knowledge of departmental/institutional policies and regulations, state penal and judicial systems, and correctional institutional/prison treatment programs.
Knowledge of institutional security and safety practices and procedures, health standards sanitation principles, and clinical/casework management relative to treatment programs.
Skill in the use of generally accepted clinical/psychological counseling techniques.
Skill in eliciting information of a sensitive nature from criminally oriented persons from varying social-backgrounds.
Skill in planning and directing treatment program for inmates in a secure facility.
Ability to evaluates programs and develop alternative courses of action in accordance with facility/department goals and objectives.
Ability to provide direction and guidance to subordinates in program goal accomplishment.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Correctional Treatment Administrator
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Posession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Behavioral or Social Science or related field.
Three years experience in health or human services work such as applying theories, principles, laws and practices of health or human services programs and services that assist with and improve life for individuals, families, or communities such as financial support, employment, unemployment, housing, health care, disease prevention, substance abuse, child protective services, physical/mental health treatment and prevention or rehabilitation.
Six months experience in health or human services program administration such as overseeing and directing the development, implementation and evaluation of health or human services programs and services; planning and establishing short and long range program goals and objectives. Providing advice to other agency organizational units through consultation.
Six months experience in developing policies and procedures.
Six months experience in staff supervision which includes planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others.
