A class incumbent is responsible for administration of the Correctional Arts Program for the Department of Correction.
Nature and Scope
An incumbent in this class works under the general supervision of a Deputy Bureau Chief performing program administration work in coordinating the activities of a correctional arts program. The incumbent plans and coordinates program activities, prepares grant and budget requests and recruits and supervises volunteers and inmate workers. Work also includes coordinating a marketing system for inmate products with civic and community groups to exhibit and sell art work. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining program records and preparing reports regarding program activities. A significant aspect of the work involves dealing with inmates involved in the correctional arts program.

Plans, develops and administers a correctional arts program in which inmates confined to correctional institutions/facilities produce arts and crafts in a self-development effort.
Purchases and/or procures operating supplies and equipment from a variety of sources to include donations or sale proceeds from community, civic groups or private sector.
Applies for and processes grant requests and prepares the annual operating budget.
Accounts for all program materials and equipment, maintains inventory and ensures that adequate supplies are on hand to meet program demands.
Provides information concerning the program to community and other interested groups.
Coordinates a marketing system for inmate products.
Prepares a variety of records, reports and summaries relative to the program.
Recruits and supervises volunteers and inmate workers and contracts with outside appraisers and art brokers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Correctional Arts Program Coordinator
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Six months experience in planning, teaching and implementing an arts program.
Six months experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
Knowledge of budget development which includes analyzing financial data and making long and short range plans and projections.
