A class incumbent is responsible for planning, developing and directing the overall operation of the Center for Health Statistics.

Nature and Scope
The class incumbent has the responsibility to direct the collection, compilation, maintenance, analysis, control and distribution of effective and efficient vital/health statistical data used in public health planning, health trend analysis and other programs. The incumbent functions under the direction of an administrative superior. In addition, the incumbent represents the Division/Department on state, regional and national committees, boards or associations in order to further improve the use and management of health statistics.

Directs the planning, developing and implementation of an integrated program of health statistics research, public health planning, health information marketing and health trend analysis.
Directs the collection, compilation, analysis and control of varied vital/health statistical data to provide efficient and effective data.
Directs the planning, development and maintenance of the computer system to meet the Unit's existing and future data processing needs.
Develops and implements policies and procedures with respect to the procurement, management and dissemination of data.
Interfaces with agency officials, state and federal government officials, direct service personnel, other state statistic's offices and the media in order to provide efficient and effective data.
Supervises the work of professional and clerical personnel.

Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Health Statistics Administrator
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Three years experience in designing studies which includes determining study goals and objectives, information needed, data sources, sampling and collection methods.
Three years experience in conducting studies such as evaluating operations, programs, services, policies and procedures to determine efficiency, effectiveness, whether goals and objectives are met and compliance with laws, rules, regulations, polices and procedures.
Three years experience in making recommendations for continuation or changes to operations, programs, services, policies or procedures based on findings.
Three years experience in descriptive statistics such as the mean, median, mode or standard deviation.
Three years experience in inferential statistics such as correlation, t-tests, f-tests or analysis of variance.
Knowledge of developing policies or procedures.
Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work, academic training, training provided through an employer, or performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others; OR supervising staff which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees.
