This class is responsible for advising and assisting farmers and agri-businesses regarding compliance with environmental and pollution control statutes and regulations.
Nature and Scope
An incumbent in this class reports to an administrative superior and is responsible for providing interpretative, consultative and advisory services to assist farmers and agri-businessses in understanding and complying with environmental and pollution control laws and regulations. A significant aspect of the work is promoting a mutual understanding and cooperation between regulatory agencies and the agricultural community.

Organizes and conducts a program to assist farmers and agri-businesses in understanding and complying with environmental and pollution control laws and regulations.
Consults with and advises farmers and agri-businesses on compliance with state and federal environmental laws and regulations related to pollution affecting the farming community.
Maintains liaison with regulatory agencies, commercial and community organizations, educational institutions, and local governments regarding environmental programs as it relates to agriculture.
Develops and presents educational workshops and seminars and prepares articles, pamphlets and other educational materials.
Assists pesticides section with the Pesticides Certification and Education Program.

Knowledge of state and federal environmental and pollution control laws and regulations.
Knowledge of the provisions of the Delaware Pesticide Law.
Skill in written and oral communications.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships including handling sensitive matters and opposing views.
Ability to research, interpret and apply laws and regulations.
Ability to develop and conduct educational and training programs.
Ability to identify problems and recommend corrective or alternative actions.
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Agricultural Specialist Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Six months experience in pesticide application and safety standards.
Six months experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
Six months experience in presenting training courses using a variety of training methods such as lecture, structured exercises, role play or group discussion as well as the use of training materials such as overheads, PowerPoint, handouts or videos.
Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
