This class is responsible for acquiring a knowledge of and enforcing state and federal laws, rules, regulations and procedures pertaining to Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement.

A class incumbent reports to the Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement Field Supervisor. An incumbent is closely supervised and receives on-the-job training from the Supervisor and higher level Agents. An incumbent is responsible for learning the applicable laws, rules, regulations, procedures, practices, techniques, programs and equipment by attending the Department approved law enforcement training program and through on-the-job training. Work involves accompanying and assisting superiors with investigations and arresting and prosecuting violators of underage drinking, excessive drinking, DUI, illegal shipping, illegal purchasing, bootlegging, after hours consumption, prohibited federal and state trade practices and illegal inducements violations. Adjunct to Alcoholic Beverage Control enforcement is enforcement of other criminal statutes such as gambling, narcotics, prostitution and tax evasion. An incumbent accompanies and assists superiors with search and seizure operations. A significant aspect of this work involves hazardous conditions including frequent contact with people bearing lethal weapons under the effects of alcohol and illegal narcotics. The nature of this work requires frequent night duty and a work week often in excess of 37 1/2 hours including weekends, holidays and shift work.

• Promotes compliance by assisting in inspections and inventories of liquor establishments and answering questions from owners and operators to help them comply.
   
• Assists with enforcement of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement laws, rules, regulations.
   
• Assists with criminal investigations and surveillance activities.
   
• Makes arrests, completes investigative and compliance reports to include crime reports that are submitted to the State Bureau of Identification; reports may be used in court cases; appears as a witness in Court and before the Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement Commission.

• Ability to successfully complete the Department approved law enforcement training program and on-the-job training prior to expiration of probationary period.
