Introduction


Brandywine Creek State Park is divided by grey stone walls that were built of local stone in the late 1800s, when the property was a dairy farm owned by the du Pont family. Three Nature preserves are located within the park, including: Tulip Tree Woods, a majestic stand of 190-year-old tulip poplar, and Freshwater Marsh, the first nature preserve in Delaware. The area became a state park in 1965.

Summary Statement

A variety of seasonal park positions are available at Brandywine Creek State Park:

Administrative Support: $15.75/hr this seasonal position will sell park permits, provide customer service by explaining regulations, answering visitor requests, needs and complaints, and providing information about the park and surrounding areas. Responsibilities may include completing daily deposits, verifies fee booth revenue and paperwork, creating associated revenue reports; running an automated sales program, tracking supplies and inventory, and other clerical duties as required. Applicants must be available to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
Maintenance: $15.25/hr this seasonal position will be responsible for assisting maintenance staff with all aspects of maintaining the park grounds and its facilities. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. This position is required to operate light duty equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers and other lawn equipment. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled.

Essential Functions

  • May collecting appropriate fees and accountability for handling of money.
  • May serve as liaison with the public, clients, staff, and others to exchange information and explain services, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • May maintains and compiles fiscal and narrative records and reports.
  • May performs grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, trail maintenance, landscape bed maintenance, heavy lifting, trash removal, vegetation removal, leaf removal and snow/ice removal.
  • May performs custodial services in restrooms, offices, and other buildings.
  • May operate landscaping equipment and use of hand and power tools.
  • May set-up, monitoring and clean-up support for park programs and special events.
  • Maintains good public relations with park visitors and staff.
  • Provide excellent customer service and park information to visitors.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Applicants for all positions must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

Administrative Support

1.     Six months customer service experience.

2.     Six months experience in cash handling and writing receipts.

3.     Six months experience in standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.

4.     Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving.  

Maintenance - Grounds

1.     Must be at least 18 years of age.

2.     Experience using landscaping equipment and hand or power tools.

3.     Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving.

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
