Summary Statement

The Incumbents focus is on building a reliable and secure infrastructure for multiple workloads in a Private/Hybrid Cloud environment utilizing open and innovative technologies. The incumbent will work under the intermittent supervision of the Private Cloud Infrastructure Lead.  Employees are assigned duties to provide skilled technical support to maintain our cloud infrastructure and process requests for infrastructure provisioning. The Private Cloud Infrastructure Engineer serves as a primary point of contact that partners with internal business and development stakeholders when design or architectural changes may be required.

The Private Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will be instrumental in implementing the architecture and the engineering processes and best practices to enable the foundational infrastructure (compute, network, storage, and service availability) required for application hosting in a Private cloud.

  • Private cloud infrastructure concepts and technologies
  • Automating processes with a scripting language
  • Configuration management tooling
  • Software version control system

In this role, employees are responsible for architecting, deploying, maintaining, and life-cycling equipment needed to provide the private cloud infrastructure including the creation of relevant and up-to-date infrastructure documentation for all deployed systems. The Private Cloud Infrastructure Engineer serves as the Level/Tier 3 support and escalates more complex issues. The position provides training and mentoring for less experienced team members as needed.

Preferred Qualification

Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met.

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, with emphasis in Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications, Network Security, or a related field.
  • Possess certification in storage technologies, hypervisors, compute platforms, etc.

Essential Functions

  • Build, design, deploy, maintain, support, and lead the implementation of private cloud infrastructure solutions including storage, compute, hypervisor, network, and virtual appliance technologies.
  • Work in tandem with DTI engineering teams to identify and implement the most optimal private cloud-based solutions for DTI and the State of Delaware
  • Maintain and updates critical tools and infrastructure.
  • Develop basic tools, scripts and frameworks that drive efficiency in automation, monitoring and management of large-scale environments.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and contributes to the execution of the private cloud roadmap and strategy.
  • Manage private cloud environments in accordance with DTI security guidelines, including problem identification and resolution, performance management, and design configuration.
  • Deliver the infrastructure, tooling and capabilities needed to enable our private cloud strategy.
  • Deploy and debug private cloud initiatives as needed in accordance with best practices throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Develop, cascade and enforce engineering best practices using modern Software Design Life Cycle (SDLC) that enables CI/CD (continuous integration/continuous delivery) and favors automation, auditability, automated testing, infrastructure and policy as code. 
  • Drive client satisfaction by identifying and developing process improvement and automation initiatives while ensuring compliance of solutions to operations roadmap.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for DTI - Private Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Possess a minimum of two years of experience automating tasks with a scripting language
  • Possess a minimum of two years of experience developing CI/CD pipelines
  • Possess a minimum of four years of experience with running a virtualization or containerization infrastructure
  • Possess a minimum of one year of experience working with Microsoft Office applications and virtual meeting tools
  • Possess good communication skills (verbal and written) as well as effective presentation skills.
