Introduction


 

The centerpiece of Killens Pond State Park, conveniently located in central Delaware, is the 66-acre millpond, which was established in the late 1700s. Before the pond was created, the Murderkill River and surrounding hardwood forest were sites of several Native American homes and hunting camps. Killens Pond became a state park in 1965. 

Summary Statement

A variety of seasonal park positions may be available at Killens Pond State Park: 

1. Waterpark Revenue Attendant ($15.00) - responsible for all aspects of customer service, filling out start-up and close-out paperwork, completing opening and closing procedures of the fee booth.

2. Pool Monitor ( $15.00) - Applicants must possess current CPR and First Aid Certification, OR the applicant must agree as a requirement of employment to possess one prior to first day on the job. 

3. Lifeguard ($16.25) - Candidates must possess a valid Lifeguard Certification OR the applicant must agree as a requirement of employment to possess one prior to first day on the job. 

The seasonal Waterpark Lifeguard/Pool Monitors are responsible for maintaining public relations and order in and around pool area. They enforce rules and regulations pertaining to pool and swimming activities. The incumbents inspect the condition of all rescue equipment including buoys, floats, ropes, medical supplies, and other safety equipment. Incumbents may also handle minor maintenance and custodial duties. 

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled to meet facility needs.

Essential Functions

• May assist with maintenance and rental equipment. 
• Provide excellent customer service and park information to visitors. 
• Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and good communication skills.
•Provide safe water-based recreation for park. 
•Maintain constant watch over assigned pool area to prevent accidents.
•Warn swimmers of hazards.
•Maintain the water park area, to include trash and litter removal, and restroom cleaning.
•Perform appropriate rescue and medical services as required. 
• Must be able to work independently. 
• Duties will vary for each position. 
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

Waterpark Revenue Attendant:
1. Knowledge of working with money and making change. 
2. Knowledge of math such as addition and subtraction. 

Seasonal Waterpark Lifeguard/Pool Monitor:
1. Must be at least 15 years old to be a Pool Monitor. 
2. Must be at least 16 years old to be a Lifeguard.

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
