Summary Statement

The principal responsibility of the Security Engineer is to deliver and support the state of Delaware’s security controls across its network, systems, applications and data. The Security Engineer will ensure that the assigned services e.g. Cloud, network, systems, middleware, endpoint and other security services are effectively configured, deployed, maintained and optimal to mitigate threats against the state.

The Security Engineer is expected to be technical with a strong background across a broad range of cybersecurity infrastructure, including but not limited to Firewalls, Endpoint Detection and Response tools (EDR), Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), Web Application Firewalls, amongst others. The individual should be able to identify and resolve support incidents, and to respond to threats against the associated systems.

Selective Requirement

Selective Requirements must be met in addition to the job requirements.  Applicants who do not possess the selective requirement will not be qualified.

  • Applicant must possess a high school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualification

Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if the job requirements are met.

  • Possess an Associates Degree (or higher) is preferred, with emphasis in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Networks, Security, I/T Discipline or a related field
  • Possess a certification in cybersecurity, or in one or more of the assigned mission critical workgroup services: Network Security Tools (Firewalls, IDS/IPS), Application Security Tools (Web Application Firewall), Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Cloud Security Systems and Tools

Job Requirements

Job Requirements for Security Engineer

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Possess a minimum of 3 years’ hands on experience in an enterprise IT environment
  • Possess a minimum of 1 year  technical engineering experience in two or more of the specific security engineering disciplines: Network Security Tools (Firewalls, IDS/IPS, ZTNA), Application Security Tools (Web Application Firewall), Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Cloud Security Systems and Tools
  • Possess a minimum of 1 year experience successfully executing one ore more on-time security projects
  • Possess knowledge in security system analysis

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check: A satisfactory fingerprint based criminal background check administered by the Delaware State Police is required as a Condition of Hire.
