Summary Statement

The incumbent in this position offers support to staff within the agency. Responsibilities include assisting Case Managers by making field visits, delivering DME, delivering food and household items to participants, transporting participants, and helping clients gather documentation and complete applications for various social services programs. The role also involves processing authorizations for direct participant services, making referrals to external agencies for various social services programs, and providing administrative support. Experience in creating Excel spreadsheets using functions and formulas is beneficial.

Essential Functions

  • Provides information and referral services to enable clients to meet individual needs.
  • Informs individuals of Federal, State and local programs/services available. 
  • Acts on behalf of individual or group to obtain services if necessary.
  • Maintains record of all requests for services and classifies them.
  • Acts as substitute for other workers when needed and provides coverage for other DSSC
    programs as assigned.
  • Performs follow up activities with clients to assure client is receiving needed services as well
    as meeting their responsibilities.
  • Provides transportation and schedules clients eligible for assistance.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Social Service Specialist I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
  1. Six months experience in record keeping.
  2. Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  3. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  4. Knowledge of health or human services support such as interviewing clients and assessing personal, health, social or financial needs in accordance with program requirements or coordinating with community resources to obtain client services.

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
