Summary Statement

Incumbent will be responsible for handling statewide criminal and regulatory investigations as well as completing arrest warrants and search warrants that originate from surveillance activities. This class is responsible for acquiring a knowledge of and enforcing state and federal laws, rules, regulations and procedures pertaining to Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Promotes compliance by assisting in inspections and inventories of liquor establishments and answering questions from owners and operators to help them comply.
     
  • Assists with enforcement of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement laws, rules, regulations.
     
  • Assists with criminal investigations and surveillance activities.
     
  • Makes arrests, completes investigative and compliance reports to include crime reports that are submitted to the State Bureau of Identification; reports may be used in court cases; appears as a witness in Court and before the Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement Commission.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Alcohol & Tobacco Enforcement Agent I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. At least 20 and 1/2 years of age.
  2. Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  3. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Conditions of Hire

For admission to the State of Delaware Police Academy applicants who are made a conditional offer of employment shall be required to successfully complete State of Delaware Council on Police Training approved psychiatric/psychological exam, medical examination and a physical ability test to demonstrate fitness for duty.

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Selection Process
