Summary Statement
The Delaware Department of Justice is seeking a Deputy Attorney General for the White Collar Crime Unit (“WCCU”) within the Fraud and Consumer Protection Division in New Castle County to serve as Deputy Director / Assistant Unit Head. This position may be eligible for telework for up to three days per week.
While based in New Castle County, the WCCU has statewide jurisdiction to prosecute crimes involving financial misconduct and such other criminal matters assigned by the Division Director. The WCCU also pursues civil actions under the Delaware False Claims and Reporting Act for fraud committed against the government. Together with the Unit Director, the Assistant Unit Head will manage a multidisciplinary team that includes deputy attorneys general, forensic accountants, paralegals and investigators. Travel throughout the state, including multiday court proceedings in Kent and Sussex counties, may be necessary.
Essential Functions
As the Assistant Unit Head ("AUH"), this individual will play an integral and substantial role in WCCU’s civil and criminal practice. The AUH’s responsibilities will include directing the WCCU’s enforcement actions through the False Claims and Reporting Act and supervising personnel committed to those efforts. The AUH will carry a caseload of civil false claims cases but will also handle other WCCU matters, including criminal cases.
Job Requirements
The successful applicant would ideally feature civil and criminal experience, with a willingness and ability to supervise complex civil and criminal matters. Candidates for the position must possess the ability to efficiently evaluate cases, determine case resolutions with minimal guidance, anticipate legal issues, demonstrate leadership qualities and exhibit substantial interpersonal skills. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work with other deputy attorneys general, support staff and external partners at both the state and federal level. Experience litigating financial fraud and/or complex financial crimes is preferred. Travel throughout the state, including multiday court proceedings in Kent and Sussex counties, may be necessary. This position may be eligible for telework for up to three days per week. Delaware bar admission or a willingness to sit for the next Delaware Bar exam required.
