Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement

The Department of Justice is seeking a dedicated and experienced attorney to join our team as a Deputy Attorney General in the Special Victims Unit (SVU), within the Criminal Division, in New Castle County. This specialty position, which carries a $3,000 annual stipend, offers an opportunity to make a profound impact in the lives of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Essential Functions

This Deputy Attorney General will handle a caseload consisting mainly of sexual assaults, and child abuse, and neglect cases in the Family Court.  This Deputy Attorney General will also be assigned Superior Court felony child abuse and sexual assaults as they are permitted by their Family Court duties.  This Deputy Attorney General will work closely with medical professionals, detectives, and child welfare professionals to investigate their cases; evaluate available evidence for charging; and prosecute crimes supported by the evidence.  

Job Requirements

Strengths should include the ability to manage complex investigations; an interest in, and the willingness to learn and understand, medical evidence; the ability to evaluate criminal cases and exercise appropriate judgment in case charging and resolution; and the ability to anticipate issues in litigation with the ability to research legal and medical issues accurately and effectively.  

This Deputy Attorney General must be able to develop a good working relationship with detectives, medical personnel, child welfare professionals, other Deputy Attorneys General, support staff and Court personnel.  This Deputy Attorney General must have the ability to independently try serious cases and learn and apply relevant laws and court rules to cases.  Familiarity with Family Court rules and procedures would be helpful.   

Active membership in the Delaware Bar is required.
