The Aircraft Rescue Coordinator
provides fire prevention and suppression services to all City of Dayton
Aviation facilities. The incumbent oversees daily operations and shift
responsibilities including schedule and timecard management; supervision of
personnel under their command; assigns work, tasks, and details to
subordinates; and supervises the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of
fire equipment and apparatus. The Aircraft Rescue Coordinator
identifies training needs for the division and coordinates the instruction of
specialized in-service training, drills, exercises and departmental activities.
The Aircraft Rescue
Coordinator, as a member of the management team, directly
supervises employees in the Airport Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting Division.
Performs supervisory tasks to meet the operational needs of the
Airport. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training
employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance;
rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving
problems. The incumbent must maintain a thorough knowledge of
administrative policies and procedures, as well as standard operating
guidelines/procedures.
Associates Degree in Fire Science or related field must be obtained within three (3)
years of employment.
OR
Ten (10) years of
Firefighting experience with at least three (3) years as a Fire Officer
required.
OR
Bachelor's Degree in
Fire Science or related field, and Aircraft Rescue Firefighting preferred.
Degree must be from a college
or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through
the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning
Commission or equivalent region.
Must possess a valid driver’s
license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition
of continued employment.
The following must be possessed
and maintained as a term and condition of continued employment:
1. State of Ohio Level
II Firefighter certification AND a valid
State of Ohio Emergency Medical Technician certification (EMT) at time of
appointment; or able to obtain both certifications through reciprocity within 6 months of employment.
2. Within one year of
appointment, must obtain and maintain the following certifications:
§ Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification
§ Hazardous Materials Operations certification
§ Ohio Fire Instructor I
§ Fire Officer I and Fire Officer II certification
3. Must complete
National Incident Management System (NIMS) training 100, 200, 300, 400, and 700
within one year of appointment.
4. Must complete
recurrent ARFF training.
The incumbent may be
required to perform any and all of the following life support or intensive care
techniques in conjunction with a cooperating licensed medical doctor, doctor of
osteopathic medicine or surgery, a physician advisory board, or a department
physician medical director:
§ Defibrillation
§ Airway intubation
§ Relief of pneumothorax
§ Administration of appropriate drugs(s)

Background Check
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.
Medical Examination & Drug and Nicotine Testing
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
