Responsibilities
Researches, collaborates with the community, and prepares plans and guidelines for improving the city's physical, social, cultural, and economic environment in order to promote optimum utilization of land and urban design. Gathers, analyzes and interprets social, economic, and engineering data for planning and community development programs; creates maps and reports for planning purposes. Establishes reports and plans regarding urban and community issues; prepares cases for the Plan Board, Board of Zoning Appeals and Landmarks Commission. Incumbent works independently or as a team member with a wide variety of neighborhood and community groups, City staff and agencies. Must have a working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems; use of ESRI products is desired.
Minimum Qualifications
Must meet one of the following:
- Bachelor's degree from a college approved by the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB); OR
- Bachelor's degree in Planning, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geography, or Historic Preservation, or a related field AND 1 year of professional experience with a planning, zoning, development, preservation, architectural or engineering agency or firm.
Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.
License Requirements
Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Background Check
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
