Senior Engineer II

Responsibilities

Incumbents develop, coordinate, design and manage capital improvement and master plan projects. Writes Requests for Proposals and prepares cost estimates and contract documents relevant to the Capital Improvement Program. Coordinates engineering design work, construction activities, and oversees inspections to ensure projects are technically sound and completed on schedule. Manages and coordinates projects with other departments/divisions and with engineers and architects that work for the City on bidding. Works with city, state, and private engineering firms, contractors, and crews to verify quality work is performed and construction time frames are met throughout the phases of construction. Incumbents must maintain a broad knowledge of engineering theory and practice in all phases of civil engineering and surveying.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering AND 8 years of experience in designing and/or construction of capital improvement projects.

Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region. 

Certifications

Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) by the State of Ohio or be able to obtain registration through a reciprocity agreement.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Background Check 
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
