Responsibilities

A Police Sergeant directly supervises sworn and civilian police employees and carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.) and 5 years of consecutive accredited service in the Dayton Police Department as of the examination date (March 7, 2024).

Certifications

Must be OPOTA certified at time of promotion and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

General Requirements

Applicants wishing to receive educational credit should indicate their post-secondary degree in the school section of the application.  Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.

Applicants must also provide documentation of education to the Director and Chief of Police or his designee by the date of examination (March 7, 2024) in order to receive education credit.

Promotional Qualifications

Must currently be a Police Officer with the Dayton Police Department.
