Operates and monitors computer systems and related network devices to process business data according to operating instructions and troubleshoots routine system failures and data processing errors in the District’s central data center.
Operates and monitors computer systems and related network input and output devices in the District’s central data center.
Uses systems management software to monitor computer and network operations at multiple locations and takes appropriate action in case of malfunction.
Detects routine data processing interruptions and failures and makes appropriate corrections.
Sets-up and runs daily and ad hoc business data production batch jobs according to operating instructions, performs data backup operations, and prints and distributes output.
Maintains records of computer and network usage and malfunctions.
Contacts higher-level technical staff or vendors when appropriate for network hardware and software repairs and maintenance.
Maintains a current knowledge of computer hardware and software updates by attending and participating in seminars, conferences, workshops, and other training sessions and receives on-the-job training related to computer and network operations.
Performs related duties as assigned.
A Computer Systems Operator operates and monitors computer systems and related network input and output devices to process business data according to operating instructions and troubleshoots routine system failures and processing errors in the District's central data center.
A Computer Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising, monitoring, and participating in the operation of computer systems and related network devices processing business data according to operating instructions and personally troubleshoots the more difficult system failures and data processing errors in the District's central data center.
Immediate supervision is received from a Computer Operations Supervisor. No supervision is exercised.
Knowledge of:

Interpretation of business and technical operating procedures and flowcharts
English usage, punctuation, and spelling

Capabilities of computer systems, software, and hardware common to a centralized data center

Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or its equivalent AND two years of recent, full-time, paid experience in computer and/or network operations in a large scale computer environment. Experience in a computer data center serving multiple sites is desirable.
Completion of college-level coursework in computer science, information technology, or a related field is desirable.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds
