Performs a wide variety of technical duties for intercollegiate sporting events such as scorekeeping, timekeeping, statistical record maintenance, and game announcing in accordance with applicable NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations, procedures and standards. Typically works on an on-call basis for a specific sporting event.
Accurately records the official score during the progress of a game or match.
Adjusts the team scores in accordance with the official's decision.
Posts the updated score on the scoreboard.
Keeps time by starting and stopping the clock according to the rules of the sport.
Tracks individual player and game statistics; compiles final game statistics and scores; provides copies to each team and to sports reporters.
Tracks the number of penalties or fouls each player receives and alert an official when a player receives his last permissible foul or penalty.
Makes announcements during the game such as the introduction of players at the beginning of the game, player substitutions during the game, team time-outs; emergency procedures and instructions to the crowd.
Cleans and sets up the scoreboard and related equipment; tests the equipment to make sure it works properly.
May assist other event staff in the set-up, operation, and clean-up of event venues; ticket sales; ushering and crowd control; concession operations; and parking control as needed.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Typically works on an on-call basis for a specific sporting event.
A Sports Information Specialist performs a variety of paraprofessional and technical public relation duties designed to publicize, promote, and document inter-collegiate athletic programs, games, events, and athletics at a college, build campus spirit, and enhance the visibility of the athletic program with local media outlets and the public.
General supervision is received from the Athletics Director or his/her designee. No supervision is exercised.
Knowledge of:
Rules and terminology related to sports played at the community college level
Scorekeeping methods and procedures related to assigned sport
NCAA, conference and institutional rules and policies related to assigned sport
Applicable policies, standards and regulations pertaining to the duties and responsibilities of the job and sports events
Capabilities of computer systems, software, and hardware common to scorekeeping
Ability to:
Understand and follow NCAA game scoring regulations, procedures, and standards
Assemble information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear, and effective manner
Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness
Work under pressure
Be punctual and dependable
Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with a diverse pool of athletic department supervisors, coaches, student athletes, and the public
Work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends
Travel to locations throughout the District and California with assigned teams
Learn and effectively utilize computer systems, software, and hardware common to scorekeeping and sports events
Education:
Graduation from high school or its equivalent.
Experience:
Prior experience supporting intercollegiate sporting events is desirable.
Special:
A valid Class “C” California driver’s license
Travel to locations throughout the District and California may be required for some positions
Must be able and willing to work nights and weekends
Physical Requirements:
Some positions may require the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
