INTRODUCTION

The Loudoun County Department of Family Services Benefits unit is currently seeking qualified candidates for a position in the Public Assistance Benefits Unit that are looking to work in a diverse, exciting and fast paced work environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for determining eligibility for Public Assistance Programs, to include Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) by conducting interviews with applicants, requesting appropriate documentation, and applying applicable policy.

Successful candidate must:

  • Have direct experience determining eligibility for SNAP, Medicaid and TANF cases and carrying a Public Assistance caseload.
  • Be extremely knowledgeable in all public assistance programs, and have exceptional customer service skills.
  • Navigate customers through the application and interview process.
  • Have exceptional oral and written communication skills, as well as organizational and time management skills.
  • Function well in a team environment.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to customer inquiries to resolve issues, answer questions, and handle any emergency situations that may arise.

This position will be located in our Sterling office, and may be required to work from other locations, as requested.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 2 years of experience directly related to public assistance program eligibility determination, such as SNAP, Medicaid or TANF.
  • Applicant must have the ability to work independently and have excellent decision making skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.

STRONGLY PREFERRED

  • Direct experience working in a Social Services Benefits Department 
  • Fluency in Spanish

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Thorough knowledge of Virginia Department of Social Services public assistance program policies and related computer systems, to include VaCMS and MMIS.

POST CONDITIONAL OFFER CONTINGENCIES

Successful candidate will undergo a criminal history and credit check.
