DHMH, Deer's Head Hospital Center, Salisbury, MD
Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to provide administrative direction for medical staff and overall coordination of medical care for patients/residents and to provide direct medical care to some patients/residents as attending physician. The job of medical director plays a pivotal role in fulfilling the mission of Deer's Head Hospital Center to provide for the health care needs for the chronically ill, disabled citizens who are not otherwise served in the private sector. Responsible for compliance with regulations of federal, state and accrediting agencies.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a MD or DO degree, Board Certification and two years of medical practice preferably at a supervisory or administrative level. Five years of medical practice may be substituted for the Board Certification. Maryland License to practice medicine required prior to appointment.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Board Certification preferred in Internal Medicine or Family Practice. Previous experience as a leader in a chronic rehab facility is desired. Critical non-clinical Skills and knowledge necessary for success include: Proactive leadership style that actively pursues process improvements and quality measurable patient outcomes; Open and collaborative communication style; Ability to clearly define needed outcomes to non-medical staff, patients and family; Clear understanding and application of TJC standards to DHHC; working knowledge of the Office of Health Care Quality; and, Ability to prioritize and manage both self and staff in a complex environment.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.
2. Applicants must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization.
