Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to lead development and implementation of statewide training programs for Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) participating agencies. Coordinates, designs, and conducts training and technical assistance. Works collaboratively with MSDE and external work groups and partners, and participates in activities to support the goals and mission of MSDE. Serves as the State Agency coordinator and Subject Matter Expert for CACFP operations, including menu planning, administration, staff training, financial management and promotion of health and wellness. Evaluates the professional development needs of CACFP agencies, builds training content and resources, and provides training and technical assistance to support program effectiveness across program levels.

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to evaluate Child and Adult Care Food Program Agency training needs and provide training and technical assistance to support program effectiveness. Collaborates with the Professional Development and Technical Assistance (PDTA) and teams within the Office of School and Community Nutrition Programs in strategic planning activities for professional development and education activities focused on CACFP operations and other specific areas as appropriate. Develops training curricula materials, CACFP Operations and Administration resources and other technical assistance tools. Conducts trainings and technical assistance for Maryland agencies that align with USDA guidance for CNP and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Implements and coordinates trainings, presentations, and workshops at local, State, and national conferences. Develops and implements initiatives aligned with USDA guidance and the Department for CACFP focused on Operations and Administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 credit hours of post baccalaureate course work in Early Childhood Education, Nutrition, Public Health/Administration, Management, or a related area.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of professional experience in Child nutrition program administration; child care management; or related area is required.

NOTE: Two years of additional experience as defined above may be substituted for the Master’s Degree.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience conducting training and working in the childcare environment is preferred.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
