Main Purpose of Job
The Administrator directs, manages, and supervises the activities of the Maryland Heritage Areas Program, a principal program of MHT’s Office of Planning, Education and Outreach.
This position supports the mission of the agency by encouraging economic development through the protection and enhancement of historical, cultural and natural resources that support heritage tourism activities within heritage areas certified by the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA).
POSITION DUTIES
Leads development and administration of the Maryland Heritage Areas Program, including principal responsibility for preparation of program implementation policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
Prepares quarterly meeting agendas and prepares/supervises preparation of associated meeting materials.
Responsible for oversight of MHAA annual budget.
Prepares/supervises preparation of MHAA annual report.
Represents MHAA interests on key legislative issues, task forces and committees.
Oversees program public outreach and marketing efforts, including development of program-wide marketing policies and procedures, drafting of media advisories, provision of informational and training workshops.
Oversees grant and loan application and ranking process annually.
Monitors the implementation of a high volume of program grants, from application to close-out, via MHT’s grants software system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in History, Museum Studies, Archeology, Tourism, Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Historic Architecture or other closely related field.
Experience: Four years experience in an administration role in a non-profit or governmental program. One year of this experience must have involved one or more of the following:
Overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit,
Applying rules and regulations, or responsible for the development of policies or procedures,
Budget oversight,
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in History, Museum Studies, Archaeology, Tourism Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Historic Architecture or other closely related field.
Experience In:
-Administration of grants
-Demonstrated experience with heritage tourism and or marketing of historic sites.
-Ability to organize and run meetings of boards, commissions or similar groups.
