Main Purpose of Job

This position is an intermediate level of professional psychologist responsible for providing direct clinical services. This position provides therapeutic services to youth. This includes conducting assessments and providing individual, group, and family therapy to youth.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One year of experience working with juvenile offender populations who are placed in residential or community settings (i.e., detention facilities, group homes, etc.) 

One year of experience conducting psychotherapy with adolescents/juveniles

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Testing Unit to remove pending status.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on the eligible list categorized as QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED OR BEST QUALIFIED. Candidates shall be certified to the eligible list for a period of one year. This list will be used by the DJS hiring agency to select employees.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The assessment will be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Please report all related experience and education and include either a copy of your transcript or list your relevant coursework in the Classes Relevant to the Job section. For education obtained outside the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.
