Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional level position requiring program development, instruction and delivery of a Work Readiness program designed to assist individuals with disabilities in learning appropriate work behaviors and attitudes while participating in job shadowing and career exploration activities.

POSITION DUTIES

Facilitate the Work Readiness Program (WRP) designed to assist individuals with disabilities in learning appropriate work behaviors and attitudes while participating in job shadowing and career exploration activities; identify and provide services as needed to address personal, social and behavioral issues which may be barriers to employment. Collaborate with the Center Counselors and other WTC staff for guidance and consultation regarding the provision of appropriate services to consumers in the WRP program. Research, develop and implement a dynamic curriculum and update materials as needed to meet program goals. Conduct group training sessions consistent with approved curriculum; engage internal and external resources to develop strategies to address skills needed to compete effectively for employment opportunities. Provide crisis intervention to resolve consumer conflicts and collaborate with the Center Counselors to develop behavioral action plans as appropriate; drive/accompany consumers to worksites/worksite tours and accompany/monitor consumers on field trips.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

VR Specialist I/II  

EDUCATION:  Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree.  

EXPERIENCE:  Level I – Professional experience in a behavioral or social science related field is preferred. Bilingual skills preferred.   Level II – Two years of professional experience in a behavioral or social science related field is required; a Master’s Degree in a Behavioral or Social Science related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.  Bilingual skills preferred.  

VR Technical Specialist

EDUCATION:  Possession of a Master’s Degree in a related rehabilitation field or 36 graduate hours in Rehabilitation Counseling or a closely related field is required.  

EXPERIENCE:  The two years of required experience as a DORS VR Specialist ii must have included specialized experience in providing rehabilitation counseling, vocational evaluation, or employer relations services to clients with physical or mental disabilities; or teaching services to clients with partial or total visual impairment.  These two years of experience must be in Division of Rehabilitation Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist II.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: principles, procedures and regulations involved in providing rehabilitation services; professional counseling, interviewing, and evaluation procedures; relationship between functional limitations presented by disabilities and employment goals; social and economic structure of the community organizations and groups providing services and information for people with disabilities; practices relating to job search and employer outreach activities; and of laws and regulations governing the administration of vocational rehabilitation, special education, social security, and social services. Ability to: effectively plan and organize assigned work and meet established performance standards; interact with consumers in a group setting and facilitate group instruction; determine appropriate instructional strategies that will meet the educational needs of the consumers in the program; coordinate and deliver multidisciplinary services required to support rehabilitation programs; analyze and interpret complex and varied medical, psychological, and vocational reports; assess consumer performance to determine job readiness and appropriateness for competitive employment; develop worksite and job opportunities; establish and maintain appropriate relationships with consumers, family members, employers, representatives of public and private organizations, providers of rehabilitation services, general public, and government
