Main Purpose of Job
The Public Affairs Officer II will work as the Special Assistant for the Office of Communications. The incumbent will be responsible for collaborating with the Communications team in creating content, updating, and maintaining the Department’s Internet and Intranet Websites, as well as all DJS social media channels.
POSITION DUTIES
The incumbent will also develop new content and positive news stories for the Department, which will include video. The incumbent will have daily collaboration with DJS field and residential staff, gathering various information related to staff and youth and then disseminating the news in a timely manner. Other responsibilities may include reviewing and editing published documents that promote the Department’s mission and vision, as well as working with the Director on various other projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with at least 30 semester credit hours in one or more of the following subjects: English, journalism, public relations, writing or other similar and related courses.
Experience: Three years experience in public information, public relations, journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work.

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience as described above on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in public affairs specialist classification or public affairs specialty codes in the information and arts field of work on a year- for-year basis for the required experience and education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least 1 year of experience providing social media development.
At least 1 year of experience working with a photo editing software.
Strong writing and proofing skills.
