Main Purpose of Job
A Nurse Practitioner/Midwife II is the full performance level of work responsible for providing primary health care to the youth served by the Department of Juvenile Services, and functions as a nurse practitioner to identify and address health concerns through the practice, planning, coordinating, and supervision of the health care services in the facility health centers.
This position maintains clinical operational efficiency according to DJS policies, procedures and protocols. Work is performed under the general direction of the Program Health Administrator and the clinical direction of the Medical Director, in accordance with prescribed nursing care protocols.
POSITION DUTIES
This position is responsible for:
- planning, supervising, and coordinating the health care services of professional nurses and the delegate and supervised care delivered by licensed practical/vocational nurses and other assistive personnel.
- maintaining operational efficiency and consistency in health care services implemented and delivered according to DJS policy, DJS Health Services Operational procedures, DJS Nursing Protocols and DJS Standards of Conduct at the assigned facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses under the certification requirements for Nurse Practitioner or Nurse-Midwife.
Experience: One year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or as a Nurse-Midwife.
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Midwife classification or Nurse Practitioner or Nurse-Midwife specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the
following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific

Current Nurse Practitioner certification (Pediatrics or
Family)
CPR/AED certification
Two years’ experience as a board-certified nurse
practitioner in Pediatrics or Family
One year of clinical supervision or management experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner or as a Nurse Midwife from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
