Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Administrative Specialist III. This position receives, analyzes, and processes  applications for licenses issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Financial Regulation.

POSITION DUTIES

To receive, analyze and process applications for licenses issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Financial Regulation, assisting in the investigation and assessment of applicants for licensure (both new and renewal) as well as other licensing requests and matters so as to ensure that applicants and licensees are qualified for licensure under state law and will otherwise engage in safe and sound financial services activity in a lawful, honest, fair, and efficient manner. A Licensing Analyst is an analyst position that may, in management's discretion, work remotely in accordance with the Agency's telework policies.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to
:
  • Reviewing, investigating, and processing non-depository license applications and registration, including reviewing and analyzing applications and supporting information and documentation, requesting and reviewing additional information and documentation as needed,  conducting independent investigative work, approving and issuing or recommending the denial of all categories of non-depository licenses regulated by the Commissioner. 
  • Reviewing, investigating and processing other licensing requests and matters, including reviewing and analyzing those requests and matters and related information and documentation, requesting and reviewing additional information and documentation as needed, conducting independent investigative work, approving or recommending the denial of licensing requests in all categories of non-depository licenses regulated by the Commissioner, resolving or recommending next steps with regard to other licensing matters. 
  • Assisting in the filing and storage of licensing files and records, including active files, inactive files, or those files being prepared for destruction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Customer Service experience specifically with answering telephone calls and handling the public

Ability to make independent decisions

Ability to work in a fast-pace work environment

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Department of Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Department of Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
