The Land & Materials Administration is recruiting for an Administrative Officer I in the Audit/Fees Unit.  This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of the Environment.  This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only.  The resulting cert list will be maintained for one year.  Persons interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply.

Main Purpose of Job

The Administrative Officer I is responsible for managing the daily operation of the Audit/Fees Unit and performing data analysis and audits of the lead rental registration files, and interpreting compliance in accordance with Annotated Code of Maryland, Environment Article and the Code of Maryland Regulations.

 

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for independently overseeing and monitoring compliance in accordance with the State legislative registration requirements. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing processes and procedures to identify, track, and ensure compliance with all laws, initiating and implementing enforcement referrals to ensure compliance with State regulations and Department processes. 

 

The incumbent will prepare correspondence and frequently communicate with the Enforcement and
Compliance Section Head, Division Chief, Program Managers, the general public, rental property
owners and regulated communities, Office of the Attorney General, and Public Information Act staff
to discuss data and audit issues, referrals, regulations, and processes, etc.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience  Five years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

It is preferred that the selected candidate have the following:


  • Customer service experience interacting with internal and external customers in a business or government setting;
  • Experience with databases and spreadsheets;
  • Experience with processing and tracking financial records or legal/regulatory compliance records;
  • Experience as a supervisor.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
