Main Purpose of Job

To make professional decisions regarding the level of impairment, the capacity for work and the vocational rehabilitation potential of disabled applicants under the Social Security Act. Efficiently process adult and childhood initial and reconsideration claims; initial continuing disability review claims.

POSITION DUTIES

Determines eligibility for Social Security Disability benefits and Supplemental Security Income Payments; secures appropriate medical, vocational and psychological documentation as required by established federal standards; provides general information about Disability Determination Services; uses medical terminology to accurately describe impairments; evaluates evidence to determine the degree and severity of disabilities in each electronic case; makes recommendations to award or deny benefits; writes determinations and defends the assessments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree.

Experience:  Two years of professional experience in a behavioral or social science related field is required.

Note:  A Master’s Degree in a Behavioral or Social Science related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Conditional job offer and access to Social Security Administration’s (SSA’s) systems, data, information, and/or premises are contingent upon you passing the SSA suitability process. A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials.
