Main Purpose of Job

The Associate Producer, Acquisitions will support the Programming & Acquisitions department with technical evaluation, packaging and delivery of content for national distribution. This includes post-production review, editing, closed captioning, and output to current public television broadcast standards of acquired programs and films for broadcast. Programs acquired may be for local, regional and/or national, and multimedia and broadcast distribution by Maryland Public Television, and other national program distributors.

This is a Special Appointment position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

The incumbent will review all acquired content which has been contracted by MPT for FCC-compliance to ensure conformity with broadcast specifications as published by PBS, and applicable to APT and NETA.  The Associate Producer will assist the Director of Acquisitions in collection of materials such as music rights cue sheets, promotional materials, and external metadata for each acquired program. Creation of program metadata when assigned, liaise with producers and editors on delivery of video files. Vigilance and tracking of all materials and dedication to deliverable timeline.

As part of the Acquisitions team, the Associate Producer will attend all pertinent regularly scheduled internal meetings, as well as one-on-one meetings with Director of Acquisitions, Managing Director of Programming and Acquisitions, and/or the Program Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in film, media, mass communications, or related field.  

Experience: Two (2) years of experience which involved the various aspects of television production such as research, writing, segment production, editing and knowledge of cameras and equipment.

Note:

1. Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).

Experience with non-linear editing using software such as Adobe Premiere, Avid Media Composer or Final Cut Pro.

Experience complying with PBS/FCC specifications.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The selected candidate must be willing to work flexible hours to include a short turnaround, overtime, holidays, and weekends.  The selected candidate must be able to lift 20 lbs. or more due to the weight of the equipment.
