MDH, Deer's Head Hospital Center, Salisbury, MD

POSITION DUTIES

This position is essentially accountable for the maintenance of uninterrupted electrical operations for Deer's Head Hospital Center in order to promote safe and appropriate state of the art care for our patients and residents. This responsibility is accomplished by sustaining the optimal efficiency of all electrical circuits in the facility including those carrying 13,000 or greater volts and includes repairing, replacing, and maintaining new and existing machinery containing pneumatic, hydraulic, steam, and hot water controls. This position is available for emergency electrical situations during on and/or off hours.

Per the Amended Directive and Order Regarding Vaccination (MDH # 2023.04.18.03) issued by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18, 2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility. An individual may request an accommodation by providing appropriate and sufficient documentation for bona fide medical or religious reasons.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Five years of experience installing, repairing, testing and maintaining electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and control devices at commercial or residential buildings or other facilities.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience as described on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited vocational or technical high school or other vocational or technical school with a concentration in electricity for three years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience as a non-commissioned officer in construction electrician classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the installation and repair of electrical systems, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience with large commercial generators and switch gears 
  • Experience with low voltage systems such as call lights  

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification who are assigned to facilities that mandate licensed electricians must possess a current license as a Master Electrician or other appropriate electrician license from a local board or from the Maryland State Board of Master Electricians, 500 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202-3651.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24-hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification who are designated as Level I or Level II employees shall attend and successfully complete the appropriate asbestos safety and health training as required by Executive Order 01.01.1987.22.
