Introduction

Maryland voters approved a referendum to legalize adult-use cannabis in the State effective July 1, 2023. This position will be a part of the State’s regulatory body for both medical and adult-use cannabis.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Maryland Cannabis Administration, Linthicum, MD

Main Purpose of Job

This position will be responsible for providing policy research and analysis support to the Office of Policy and Government Affairs at the Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA). This position will support the Office of Policy and Government Affairs in legislative and regulatory matters, including conducting legal and policy research, drafting legislation and position statements supporting the Administration position, responding to public comments on proposed regulations, and serving as a liaison to industry stakeholders. The position requires regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of administrative staff or professional work.

A four-year degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for four years of professional work experience; an advanced degree in law, public health, or public policy may be substituted for two additional years of professional work experience. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Specific education, training, or experience in public policy; experience in drafting of legislation or regulations; an advanced degree in either public policy, public health, or law.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
