LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position in the technical group of the Division of Capital Construction and Facilities Maintenance is to function as an Engineer with expertise in Electronic Security (ES) Systems and performing work relating to the analysis, design, construction, and monitoring of ES systems in capital or maintenance at all State facilities utilizing in-house maintenance staff and/or contracted services.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Test and evaluate to measure readiness of electronic security systems at all state correctional facilities.
  • Prepare and present detailed monthly reports on the status of electronic security systems. Also, provide an ongoing action plan detailing all repair and maintenance activities related to these systems.
  • Make scheduled visits to facilities to train in-house staff on repair and replacement of electronic security systems. Provide direct supervision for any in-house work related to the system.
  • Make emergency (unscheduled) visits to assess the electronic security problems at various correctional facilities. Take direct action to resolve problems and make recommendations should outside resources be necessary. 
  • Plan, design, write specifications, prepare estimates, and produce drawings/sketches for repair or replacement of electronic security systems components by contracted service. Provide training to maintenance staff as needed.
  • Provide project management for all contracted electronic security work.
  • Any other work assigned by management related to electronic security systems (CCTV, camera work, recording, fence approach detection, etc.)
  • Advise the Division staff in investigations, evaluations, preparations of project programs and cost estimates. Evaluate cost estimates prepared by consultants pertaining to electronic security engineering as needed for new or existing funded or to-be-funded capital projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.


Experience: Two years of experience as a design and project manager engineer or architect for agency capital and operating construction, maintenance and system services projects.

 

 Notes:


1. Additional experience as an engineer or architect in the building construction field involving the design, construction or repair of building structures or system services may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.  

2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the required education and experience.  

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Architecture field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s).  Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

  •  Five (5) years experience with security electronics systems design and troubleshooting, including cameras. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees may be required to carry an electronic paging device or provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.
