Main Purpose of Job

This part time position provides clinical dental services to SGHC in-patient to promote a healthy mouth, that supports good mental health. Performs or is responsible for all administrative functions of the Dental Clinic.

POSITION DUTIES

 1. Responsible for preventing cross infection between all people present in the Dental Clinic, by practicing and ensuring practice of infection control standard precautions.

 2. Provides various dental services to Spring Grove patients and Dom Care residents to maximize general dental health using a variety of instruments, devices, materials and communications.

 3. Prescribes and manages medication for patients to improve their mental health status; utilizing appropriate drug utilization guidelines for the hospital.

 4. Manages the Dental Clinic to operate as effectively as possible by performing or being responsible for the performance of all administrative functions.

 5. Responsible for maintaining stock of supplies necessary for rendering dental services by running an effective monitoring/ordering system.

 6. Participates in center-wide performance

 7. improvement activities to promote patient care delivery of the highest quality. Accomplishes this task by engaging in performance improvement projects, special projects and medical staff committees as assigned.

 8. Provides clinical and administrative supervision for dental clinic staff. This level of supervision helps to assure that the Dental Clinic services are provided by staff in a manner that is specific, consistent and appropriate to the needs of the patient.

 9. Participates in medical staff and committee· meetings as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the State Board of Dental Examiners under the licensing requirements for Dentists.

Experience: Three years of experience in the practice of dentistry with two years of the required experience in an institutional setting or a public health program.

Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute possession of a Master's degree in Public Health for one year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Dental Corpsman or Officer specialty codes in the dental field of work on a year-to-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dentist from the State Board of Dental Examiners, 4201 Paterson Avenue, Baltimore Maryland 21215-2299.

2. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess or be eligible to obtain controlled substances registration certificates issued by the federal government and the State of Maryland in order to prescribe narcotic medication.

3. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training in and maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
