Introduction
The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the legal business of the State, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials and institutions of State Government. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown, leads the Office with a key focus on equity, justice, and fairness.

Main Purpose of Job
This position serves as administrative/legal support to the Assistant Attorneys General representing the Maryland State Treasurer’s Office (STO) and the Maryland Sheriffs. The STO legal division supports all legal activities associated with the administration of the State’s Tort Claims Act and the State’s General Obligation Debt Program.
The Division attorneys are charged with providing legal advice and opinions, contract preparation and review, preparing and editing rules, regulations and policies, drafting legislation, representation in various types of litigation, administrative and regulatory proceedings and responding to citizen inquiries.
A hybrid remote telework and in-office schedule option may be available per OAG's policies and procedures.
POSITION DUTIES
The primary responsibilities of this position involve specialized legal and administrative support functions such as preparing pleadings, briefs, correspondence; filing; preparing and organizing documents in preparation for trial; maintaining up-to-date litigation and/or subject files; calendar management, including assisting with scheduling court appearances and depositions, appropriately handling incoming departmental calls; maintaining relevant legal database(s); and providing general administrative support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience:
Five years secretarial or two years paralegal experience.
Applicants must have organizational skills with a working knowledge of the Microsoft Word. Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and timelines to ensure timely production and delivery of materials; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment; ability to compose routine and complex business correspondence; and ability to deal with officials, the public, and co-workers in a courteous and tactful manner.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have:
1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of office management.
2. Working knowledge/experience using Microsoft 365, Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a typewriter or keyboard on a personal computer, computer terminal or word processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
