Main Purpose of Job

To create a classroom learning environment providing basic computer instruction to incarcerated adults at a Maryland Correctional facility.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
  • Providing course instruction in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Provide instruction and retention strategies to students in basic computer skills
  • Deliver class curriculum that fosters mastery of technology; basic computer skills for adult learners; 
  • Encourages students to achieve personal outcomes and to become empowered in computer technology
  • Distribute copies of the syllabus at the beginning of the first class session and give an overview in class;
  • Check the roster and take attendance each class session, verifying registration;
  • Provide evaluation packet at the end of the class session to each student and return within (1) week prior to the end of class;
  • Post grades within (72) hours after the class is over. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Six years of experience planning and conducting employee development and training.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience planning, conducting or coordinating training or staff development activities for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in education and training classification or education and training specialty codes in the education and training field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Two (2) or more years of experience teaching adults.
Two (2) or more years of experience using Microsoft office
- Experience with record keeping & entering daily attendance

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the division of Unemployment Insurance (LABOR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to LABOR/DUI as a result of an unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

The assessment may consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience related to the requirements of the position. It is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Please report all experience and education that is related to this position.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.

FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS

U.S. Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. Any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing a U.S. Military form DD 214 verifying honorable discharge from service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview). Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of Veterans’ status.
