SOCIAL WORKER HEALTH SERVICES, COURT INVOLVED SERIES

Grade 17:  Social Worker I, Health Services CI, $70,743 - $110,288/year

Social Worker I, Health Services CI is classified as intermediate level work at a Court Involved Facility and employees in this classification receive moderate supervision from a Social Work Supervisor, Health Services.

Neither of these levels supervise other positions and the position duties for both levels include, but are not limited to:

• Providing direct social work services within a health care setting to clients in a special population, such as mentally ill, developmentally disabled, physically disabled, chronically ill, geriatric, maternity, family planning, adolescents or substance abusers; 
• Evaluating case situations and presents information to other members of the health care team on clients’ families and social background pertinent to diagnosis and treatment; 
• Interviewing clients and family members to determine nature and degree of problems and arranging, as necessary, medical or psychiatric examinations to help identify problems pertinent to diagnosis and treatment; 
• Determining if a crisis situation exists and, if it does, immediately initiating appropriate intervention techniques;
• Interpreting psychiatric and other health care treatments to clients or families and helps with personal and environmental difficulties which interfere with obtaining maximum benefit from that care; 
• Working with other members of a multi-disciplinary health care team to further their understanding of social and emotional factors underlying the client’s health problems; 
• Helping clients to modify attitudes and patterns of behavior by increasing self-understanding and to respond constructively to treatment and assists in adjustment leading to and following the completion of treatment;
• Working in close cooperation with public and private organizations to provide a plan of service to assist clients in achieving optimum social and health adjustments within the clients' capacity; 
• Providing therapeutic counseling as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team; 
• Serving as the link between client, medical facility and the community; 
• May develop, within a multi-disciplinary health care team, individual treatment programs for assigned clients;
• Performs other related duties.

Most recent job experience is (or was) with the US Federal Government or Maryland State Government, defined as AT LEAST ONE of the below:

• Currently employed with the US Federal Government;
• Separated from the US Federal Government after January 15, 2025, with or without other employment since;
• Currently employed with the Maryland State Government.

Candidates must be licensed as a Certified Social Worker or Certified Social Worker, Clinical by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license is obtained, submit a copy to the Maryland Department of Health Testing Unit. 

2. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess an appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
