Main Purpose of Job

The IT Service Deliver Engineer & Security Analyst Jr. plays a crucial role in ensuring the security and functionality of the organization’s IT systems by collaborating with Sec Gov and the IT Service and Delivery Team. This position is responsible for defining, documenting, and implementing security and IT support requirements related to endpoint protection, data loss prevention, and system monitoring. The specialist ensures the effective maintenance, updating, and utilization of security controls and IT tools, such as Tanium, CrowdStrike, and Symantec DLP, to protect sensitive systems and data. Additionally, this role involves analyzing and improving IT support systems, processes, and workflows, including ticket management in JIRA, to optimize performance and user experience. The IT Service Deliver Engineer & Security Analyst Jr. is also responsible for conducting system and security requirements gathering, translating business and security needs into functional specifications, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies. The position further includes providing technical support, performing system testing, contributing to process improvement efforts, developing technical documentation, and delivering end-user training and support to enhance system utilization and security compliance. In this role, the IT Service Deliver Engineer; Security Analyst Jr. operates under general supervision, assisting in system design, configuration, and testing to ensure alignment with organizational goals. This position may require flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Two years of experience maintaining and modifying operating systems for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or other information technology related field to include course work in machine or assembler computer languages, and operating system and data communication technology for multipurpose multi-tasking computers for one year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute experience operating multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using third generation or other generally accepted computer programming languages; or designing, developing and maintaining communications networks on a year-for-year basis for a high school education.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or other information technology related field to include course work in machine or assembler computer languages, and operating system and data communication technology for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers and one year of experience maintaining and modifying operating systems for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Computer Systems Operations classifications or Computer Systems Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of experience maintaining and modifying operating systems for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers. 

Two years of experience monitoring endpoint security logs with Tanium, and monitoring endpoint activity and identifying anomalies

Two years of experience troubleshooting VPN connections such as Zscaler

Six months of experience working with Symantec DLP

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
